The Mediums I use
When I started my artistic "career" some two years ago, I focused on coloured pencils after having tried acrylic paints unsucessfully. In the meantime I used oil pastels and watersoluble wax crayons in addition to my coloured pencils, and in December 2013 I rediscovered acrylic paints.
In addition to doing traditional art I also love to play around with colours and shapes digitally - be it with Artrage, the digital painting software, or doing vectors with Inkscape. I just love to be creative in which way whatever.

Coloured Pencils
My favorite coloured pencils are the Polychromos from the Faber-Castell company. They don't break easily and can be sharpened without any problems. I use baby oil as a solvent.
Red Squirrel

This coloured pencils drawing of a red squirrel was done in January 2013. I not only enjoyed drawing the various shades of brown and red for the fur, but also the green and blue for the background.
A pair of flamingoes

I did that drawing in the beginning of December 2012. I love flamingoes, their colours and the gracefulness of their movements.
After I had overcome my fear of drawing or painting backgrounds I enjoyed applying the various shades of green.

Digital Paintings / Drawings
Some time ago I discovered a new way (well, new for me!) to colour my drawings in Photoshop, using the lasso tool, the gaussian blur filter and the dodge and burn tools.

Horse Portrait
One year ago I did the sketch, and just some days ago I decided to colour it in Photoshop. I mainly used the magnetic lasso, but for highlights and shades I also used the "normal" lasso.

Cat portrait
This digital painting is based on a digital lineart drawing done with Inkscape. I then imported the file into photoshop and did the entire colouring with it. I was just curious how it would feel to do it with this software instead of Artrage. I found out that there is one thing that seems easier to me: to choose the proper colours and to have them in the colour palette.

Tree with Lake
This is my first coloured lineart landscape. I first did a very rough sketch, scanned it and imported the scan into Inkscape. Inkscape is the open source alternative to Adove Illustrator.
I inked the sketch and painted on the lineart in Artrage, using the felt pen and the airbrush.
Each of these stages had its own focus: With the pencil sketch I focused on the composition of the piece. When doing the lineart I focused on shapes, and in the colouring stage I focused on colours, on shading, on giving depth to the piece.

Landscape

This is one of the first digital paintings I did with Artrage. I love the Bavarian Alps, and have a lot of photo references showing the green pastures and the rocky and snowy mountains. This painting is a mix of several photo references.
